The Roman and Visigothvilla of Vilauba (Camós) was discovered in 1932, although the systematic excavations, coordinated by the MACB, began in 1978 and still continue today. In Vilauba we may study what Roman villas were like in the high imperial period (1st-3rd centuries AD), the lower imperial era (4th-5th centuries AD) and the Visigothic period (6th-8th centuries AD), when the villa was transformed into a vicus or early medieval town. The lower imperial and Visogothic era is also appreciable in Mas Castell in Porqueres, where a necropolis and several churches of this period have been discovered.

Thanks to ongoing research conducted after the many archaeological campaigns, this villa has become the best-studied of its kind in the whole of Catalonia and an essential element when it comes to gaining knowledge about the Roman and Visigothic rural world. Prominent among the items recovered are the three bronze figures of the lararium, numerous coins, ceramic vessels, tools made of bone, bronze or iron, human remains and carbonised fauna and plants. The site has been restored and prepared for visitors.
