The Sant Oleguer ice well

The well dates from the 17th century and was used to store ice from winter to sell in the summer. Ice was used to preserve food and to make refreshing drinks and sorbets. The main consumer was the city of Barcelona.
\
\ Most of the structure is underground in order to ensure adequate thermal insulation and keep the ice longer. The roof, which is conical, is made of green tiles. Another entrance was opened in the 1990s, when the well was being restored to show the inside and understand how it worked.
