The Vapor Buxeda Vell Factory: from steam to electricity

This museum space takes us on a visit to Sabadell’s past in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and preserves a unique gem of the technological evolution in energy : the semi-fixed self-driving Wolf steam engine (1906). The project for this engine room was the work of engineer Francesc Izard i Bas, commissioned by the company La Mercantil Sabadellense.
\
\ The exhibition focuses on how changes in energy affected the development of the city’s textile industry. The visit begins with an audiovisual presentation of the historical context of industrial growth in Catalonia and Sabadell: The visit then examines the chimney, the old boiler room, the charcoal kilns, the condensation tower and the tubular spare part for the Wolf engine.
\
\ The engine features on the list of the 150 elements of the Catalan industrial heritage.
