From 1940 onwards the decline in production of traditional pottery continued, mainly due to the gradual abandonment of traditional rural activities and a move towards a more urban and industrial society, as well as the emergence of new materials to substitute ceramics. These circumstances would have seen the end of the industry, if the '50s had not produced the tourist boom. This allowed some workshops in La Bisbal to focus their production in a new direction and transform the old clay pots into decorative objects, adapting their designs and colours to the tastes of new customers.
