The gradual industrialisation of the industry resulted in the need for large stocks of clay to make sure there was enough supply. The invention of the strainer accelerated this stage of the process. The introduction of this piece of equipment, together with the tile cutter and other related machinery (glazers, manual trimmers), made it easier to produce matte tiles on an industrial scale, as well as glazed tiles for decoration. The expansion of production meant greater specialisation developed, and saw the emergence of the first auxiliary industries, while the railway was used to transport goods.
