Enric Cristòfol Ricart is one of the founding members of the Courbet Group, together with Josep Llorens Artigas, Joan Miró, Francesc Domingo and Rafael Sala, who were publicly described in July 1918 as a «an avant-garde group, violent against bourgeois art and pomperisme». The group received new affiliates such as Josep Francesc Ràfols, Marià Antoni Espinal, Josep de Togores, Josep Obiols, Rafael Benet and Joaquim Torres-García, and disintegrated in 1919, when most of its members left for Paris.

The Porch represents everything new that the younger artistic generation was looking for with Fauvist colors, the structure of the composition and the sphere with the colors of the French flag, where Ricart spent periods of time and where the new art came from.
