Muxart’s temperament, between measure and extravagance. His work does not fall within a single style
Jaume Muxart (Granollers, 1922), an artist with extensive experience, paints with enthusiasm and freedom without being influenced by fashion or the directives of the art market. His creative path generates an extraordinary individual, original iconographic and thematic universe: landscapes, seascapes, figures, still lifes, portraits, self-portraits, animals, flowers, religious figures... everything but fish!
Muxart’s universe is a compendium of the possibilities of painting, a history of painting within painting: the diversity of pictorial genres, stylistic experimentation, analyses of graphic language, the dance between matter and colour, the prominence of the brushstroke and a representation which is transformed without surrendering to pure abstraction. His work does not fall within a single format or style. He knows how to build shape and colour; he is energetic and yet austere. His brushwork is an absolute strength and pictorial triumphs over all visual functionalism.
Muxart’s painting develops day by day without stop, with extreme rigour and passion. His figures, the protagonists of the works of the late 1980s, such as Harlequins, are the great poetry of transformation in which sensitive details and the atmosphere of the stage open up new pathways for the imagination.
