A visit to the Municipal Nautical Museum of El Masnou will reveal the local history of the town and the coast of Catalonia through objects that denote the importance of navigation and overseas trade in the growth of the town.

The Historical-Archaeological Museum of the Town opened its doors in the carrer de Sant Francesc d’Assís, 26-28 in 1962. It was set up by a group of local citizens who were aware of the need to preserve local heritage, and who managed to bring together, study and exhibit a collection of pieces that are fundamental to understand the history of the town.

In 1990, the museum was converted into the Municipal Nautical Museum of El Masnou, as its collection of nautical material became the focus of the Museum’s material.

As these collections grew, so did the need for a new direction for the Museum, and it was moved to its new home in 2001.
