The Vic Episcopal Museum (Museu Episcopal de Vic - MEV) opened in 1891 and is housed in a contemporary building in the city’s historical centre. It has one of Europe’s finest collections of medieval art, with masterpieces of Catalan Romanesque and Gothic painting and sculpture. The collections of jewellery, textiles, wrought iron, glass and ceramics constitute a complete history of liturgical and decorative art in Catalonia. There are over 29,000 pieces on exhibition.

\ The Romanesque and Gothic sections contain the most valuable pieces, which have earned the Museum international fame. The Descent from Erill la Vall, the Vall de Ribes Baldachin and a major set of altar fronts are highlights of the Romanesque collection. Outstanding pieces from the Gothic collection include the Virgin of Boixadors, the altarpiece by Bernat Saulet and works by the foremost Catalan painters of the period, such as Lluis Borrassà, Bernat Martorell and Jaume Huguet.
