Tortosa Museum opened in 2012 as heir to the town’s first museum established in 1900. Its home is the former Tortosa abattoir, a Modernist-style building designed by the architect Pau Monguió i Segura built between 1906 and 1908 and used for its original purpose until 1997.

The building is exceptional for its style and floridity, which was inspired by Mudejar architecture. It was built with stone foundations, roughcast masonry, brickwork, ceramics and glazed tiles and stands on the banks of the Ebro on land reclaimed from the river.

A tour of the permanent exhibition will tell you the history of Tortosa and its territory from prehistory to the present day. You can also admire the most representative items from the municipal collection.
