Museum of Guissona Eduard Camps i Cava

In September 2011, the Museu de Guissona Eduard Camps i Cava was reopened on the ground floor of the old Fassina Mercadé building, next to the two hectare Archaeological Park where the ruins of the Roman city of Iesso have been uncovered.

The museum’s permanent exhibition explains how the north-eastern part of the Iberian peninsula was conquered and governed by the Romans. It details the physical, political, social and economic evolution of the military settlement which became the town of Iesso, and much later would be Guissona. The town proper was founded around 100 BC, and continued to grow until the 6th century AD, as visitors will discover from the texts, photographs and illustrations of the exhibition, as well as from the walls, streets, houses, thermal baths and other features that archaeology has brought to light. From a combined visit to the museum and the park we can appreciate something of the complexity of the everyday life of the inhabitants of two thousand years ago.
