The Girona Art Museum is located in the unparalleled setting of the Palau Episcopal, which has been admired since the 10th century. A tour through the rooms offers a journey through the history of architecture.

The interior of the palace hosts the most important art collection in the Diocese and in the Girona province, with pieces dating from the Romanesque period up until the dawn of the 20th century. Among the most notable works are the altar from Sant Pere de Rodes (10th century), the altarpiece from Sant Pere de Púbol (15th century), tables from the altarpiece at Sant Feliu de Girona (16th century), the altarpiece from Segueró (16th century) and the sculpture "Against the invader" (19th century). The building houses many rooms that still serve their original purpose, such as the Episcopal prison and the majestic garden.

The installations in the Museum of Art are complemented by two galleries in the building that used to be the Santa Caterina hospital, located in the market place: the old hospital pharmacy and the chapel (now the Josep Irla Auditorium for the Regional Government of Catalonia), where the painting "The Great Day of Girona" is displayed (from the MNAC), the largest Catalan painting (496 x 1082 cm).
