The Art Museum of Cerdanyola (MAC) is housed in an Art Nouveau building constructed by the architect Gaietà Buïgas as the Teatre Casino for a family who used to summer in this town (1894). Later (1905-1912), it was refurbished by Eduard M. Balcells as a summer home, and between 1961 and 1999 it was the home to the Domènech pharmaceutical laboratories.
\
\ Opened in 2009, the MAC has a collection devoted to Art Nouveau and Art Deco artists with ties to the city, such as the sculptor and illustrator Ismael Smith and the painter Josep de Togores. Prominent works include Dames de Cerdanyola (Ladies of Cerdanyola), which signalled a peak in Catalonia’s Art Nouveau stained-glass art. This work has now been recovered and placed back in its original location. The MAC also has spaces for temporary exhibitions, and on the first floor there is an auditorium that can house up to 120 people.
\
\ It offers an extensive programme of activities for the public at large, in addition to educational activities for schools and accessible activities and resources for individuals with special needs.
