Granollers is one of the five Catalan cities that still conserve a fascinating heritage related to ancient tanneries and is a member of the Network of Historical Tanneries of Catalonia.

The Ginebreda Tannery is the only one that remains of the half-dozen tanneries that used to exist in the city. Plus, it has been conserved in good enough conditions that it has been turned into a museum, framed by a stretch between two towers in the medieval wall.

Archaeologically dating from between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, it is a sample of pre-industrialisation in Catalonia and reveals the importance of the city as a village that sprang up around a crossroads of ancient roadways, where a market had existed since the 10th century which became the driving force behind the city’s economy.

The Tannery of Granollers contributes to an overall interpretation of the job of tanning in Catalonia. Therefore, it is part of a complex of high historical, cultural, heritage and tourist interest.
