Granollers is one of the five Catalan cities that still conserve a fascinating heritage related to ancient tanneries and is a member of the Network of Historical Tanneries of Catalonia.
\
\ The Ginebreda Tannery is the only one that remains of the half-dozen tanneries that used to exist in the city. Plus, it has been conserved in good enough conditions that it has been turned into a museum, framed by a stretch between two towers in the medieval wall.
\
\ Archaeologically dating from between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, it is a sample of pre-industrialisation in Catalonia and reveals the importance of the city as a village that sprang up around a crossroads of ancient roadways, where a market had existed since the 10th century which became the driving force behind the city’s economy.
\
\ The Tannery of Granollers contributes to an overall interpretation of the job of tanning in Catalonia. Therefore, it is part of a complex of high historical, cultural, heritage and tourist interest.
