The Segre Gold Interpretative Centre explains not only the history of gold mining from the waters of the river Segre but also allows the visitor to experience something of what it was like to be a real gold prospector. In a woodland setting by the river, with the water running in the background, the different information panels and glass cases show the process of gold prospecting and gold processing on the Segre, during the Al-Andalus period, and, later, in the 16th and 17th centuries. The panning for gold is carried out in a space where the water from the river can be sifted with a gold pan, a type of colander with small holes. The visitor learns how to separate the gold from the sand so as to extract the tiny grains of pure gold, which can be taken home. The centre has a special area for children, where the experience of searching and panning for gold is explained through legends and stories inspired by this precious metal throughout the ages.
