Castle of Els Lloracs at Solivella

One of the main tourist attractions of Solivella, at one of the town’s highest points, are the ruins of the old castle palace of the Llorac family. Although the site is already mentioned in 1058, it was not fully colonised until the end of the 12th century, when the first castle tower was built. It stood out be virtue of its imposing defences, with merlons and machicolations, and its large central courtyard.

Although time has eroded this gem of late Catalan Gothic architecture, the surviving remains are significant enough to give the visitor an idea of the characteristics of that stone monster. The original wall and gateway to the walled enclosure, the parade ground and countermures all indicate what life in the castle must have been like.
