In 1885 a troupe of clowns called Los Tres Bemoles performed in El Vendrell. One of them played an instrument made out of a curved broomstick. Pau was fascinated by the sound this instrument made and insisted to his father that he wanted one like it. A few days later his father, with the help of the town barber, made him this instrument out of a dried gourd and some string.
