The extraordinary development of the towns during the Roman empire would not have been possible without a system to guarantee a constant and regular water supply. The water was used for drinking, for hygiene and for extinguishing fires, as well as for the leisure and pleasure of the people in public baths, private baths, parks and gardens.

Water was channelled around the town along pipes such as these. They come from the Roman villa at Torrent de les Voltes (Puigpelat) and are made of lead. One curious feature is that they have manufacturer’s mark on them.
