The inscription refers to the silver statue that stood on the pedestal, which was dedicated to the tutelary deity of the Tarraco Colony. In his will, Lucius Minicius Apronius, quinquennial duumvir, ordered the dedication of a silver statue weighing 15 pounds and two ounces (around 5 kg), to the Tutelary Deity of the Colònia Iulia Urbs Triumphalis Tarraco.

The Tutelary Deity of the Colony protected the city, of which he was also the personification. The small statue of him has not survived.
