This illustration is a fragment of the city map of Masnou, by Miquel Garriga i Roca (Alella, 1804 - Barcelona, 1888), and it shows the town’s seafront in the first half of the 19th century.
We can see buildings that are still there today, like the Church of Sant Pere or the Town Council, and other elements which no longer exist, such as the Can Fontanills Watch Tower, located where the Casino theatre is now.
The image of a railway arriving at Masnou stands out. The author located it at the entrance to the town, because it would be another two years after the painting before the railway line that joins Barcelona and Mataró actually opened.
