The glazing hammer was also powered by a hydraulic wheel. The head of the hammer was a metal piece called a ‘mushroom’. When the hammer was in operation, the mushroom beat against an iron sheet, as a block of sheets of paper passed through. This resulted in the leaves of paper having a smooth, glossy finish.
