Ethnological Museum of Montseny

From the first setters in the 16th century

Exhibition room, “Cooking and food at the beginning of the Early Modern Period”.

Exhibition room, “Cooking and food at the beginning of the Early Modern Period”.

The ground floor of the museum shows how ways of life in Montseny have evolved throughout history. Through the objects left behind by different communities, visitors can take a trip back in time to discover life in prehistoric times, as well as seeing how the Iberians and Romans lived and the changes in landscape that occurred in Montseny: the current landscape is the result of a long process of interaction between people and the environment.

During the Middle Ages Montseny went through a process of economic and social transformation that resulted in a new model of organisation: feudalism, which in the case of Montseny can be seen in the examples of Montsoriu Castle and the Viscounts of Cabrera. The room dedicated to Montsoriu Castle provides visitors with information on the best Gothic castle in Catalonia, with a selection of objects recovered during archaeological digs, and a large model of the castle as it was in the 14th century. The audiovisual display "Montsoriu Castle" shows visitors about the history of this great building. After the spectacular Forest Mural, the visitor arrives at the new exhibit on cooking and food at the beginning of the early modern period, which includes over a hundred objects from the kitchen, pantry and tables from the 16th century in Montsoriu Castle, one of the best collections of archaeological objects from this period in the country.
