In former times, people also went out into the street to wait for the arrival of the Three Wise Men, although they did not see them in person as they do now, but they took a lantern with them as we still do, with only one difference: it was hand-made by them with everyday materials that could be easily found.

An example is the one on display at the Ripoll Ethnographic Museum, a 1950s lantern made of wood and painted cardboard, tissue paper, cut and pasted, with the letters "Long live the Three Kings (i.e., Wise Men)".
