In Aranese society of the 18th and 19th centuries, clothing was an expensive necessity. Therefore, the wardrobe of the people of Aran was very small, even for the rich and fortunate.

Most of the clothing was worn and kept for a long time, sometimes a person’s whole life, and was even left in a will.

The wedding was one of the few privileged moments in the lives of people to assemble their dowry and buy new clothes. Therefore, they were listed in detail in the marriage contract the future couple signed.
