Musèu dera Val d'Aran

Vielha e Mijaran

Val d´Aran Museum (Vielha).

Val d´Aran Museum (Vielha).

The Musèu dera Val d'Aran was inaugurated in 1984 in La Torre del General Martinhon, the seventeenth century castle-fortress that is one of Vielha’s landmarks. Much enlarged since then, the museum is an ideal starting point for an exploration of the history, culture and popular traditions of Aran.

A network of interpretative centres developed by the Museu dera Val d'Aran in other parts of the valley offers further opportunities to learn more of the way of life of the people who have inhabited these mountains and valleys in the past. Our permanent and temporary exhibitions, guided tours, printed and digital information, and educational activities, are all directed towards making this history better known.

Because knowing the past helps us to better understand the present and to imagine and create the future, the Musèu dera Val d'Aran works to identify, conserve and study Aran's multifaceted material and spiritual heritage.
