DID YOU KNOW THAT OLOT CREATED AN IMAGE OF THE SACRED HEART, EXCLUSIVE TO THE CITY?
In the Catholic Church the Sacred Heart of Jesus seated on a throne represents devotion to the physical heart of Jesus; it’s the symbol of divine love.
All good Christian houses always had to contain an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. From the early 20th century onwards it was practically obligatory to have a Sacred Heart enthroned in the dining room of the house. Thus, the demand for these images grew steadily and the saints workshops didn't hesitate in creating their own image for this venerative piece, with a characteristic exclusive to Olot: the throne was highly elaborate with a very high back, while Jesus had a rug at his feet, an imperial crown and a sceptre in his hand. A Christ in his majesty giving blessings in the Romanesque iconographic tradition.
