Perforated metal sphere, China, 18th to 19th centuries. Museum of Cinema-Tomàs Mallol Collection.

This object is a metal sphere with perforations in the form of floral, animal and geometric motifs. Inside is a candle which is lit and remains standing thanks to a series of inner rings.

This object was used to project the shadows from the perforations of the sphere onto the walls of a dark room. The sphere could also be rolled along the ground to move the projected shadows.
