The alembic is a copper vessel that was used to make liquor from the distillation of wine. It consists of three parts, the heating tank, the hood, where the evaporated material is concentrated, and the cooling element for condensing the evaporated material.

This apparatus represents a period when the production and sale of wine and liquor was an important engine of the city’s growth. From the 18th century onwards, the city was to experience an expansion that would transform it into the second largest city of Catalonia.
