When the fabric leaves the loom, but before it reaches the sewing process, it can undergo a variety of finishing processes which allow it to be given new properties and its quality to improve. The preparation encompasses all the physical, chemical or mechanical treatments that give the products their unique properties and confer a given appearance on them. One of these processes is dyeing. This machine was used to dye tubular fabrics. The upper roller allowed the fabric to circulate inside a bath until the dye became uniform. When the dye had set on the fabric, the vat was emptied and filled with water in order to rinse it clean.
