The thistle combing machine applies a finishing treatment that changes the appearance and touch of the fabric. With a very soft layer of hair, the fabric stays on the surface. The operation consists of forming or raising hair on one or both sides of the fabric. In order to scratch the fibre on the surface of the fabrics, the tips of thistle were used, which were popularly known as “cardots”. Over time, these “cardots” have been replaced by metal combs. The production of felted knit fabric has been one of the most famous specialities in the textile industry in the city of Mataró.
