Realism(s) in Catalonia, 1917-1936. From classic Picasso to surrealist Dalí

The New Realism(s) that arose in interwar Europe had a different degree of influence on Catalan artists. We are referring to the rappel à l’ordre, "the call to order," as the poet Jean Cocteau called it; to «Magic Realism», the term coined by historian Franz Roh; to Italian Novecento, or to the New German Objectivity. It was the moment of the return to reality and to a new classicism, escaping the past vanguards

.But what happened in Catalonia? Was there a return to realism, to consensual classicism? Was it about adopting an international trend? These are some of the questions this exhibition addresses.
