This exquisite ivory piece is an object of devotion which represents the Madonna and Child, St. Elizabeth and St. John as a child, based on Jesus’ childhood and which aims to illustrate an encounter between Jesus and Mary and St. Elizabeth and St. John when they fled to Egypt.

The setting is an exterior, next to a stone wall in ruins. Maria’s serenity contrasts with the joy of the child upon receiving his little cousin. Overall, the work exudes an atmosphere of grace and joy.
