Paintings and sculptures from Lleida of this period show that the artists who made them had adopted the styles and methods of the Renaissance, which had become widely known and emulated in Catalonia during the 16th century. As a sculptor steeped in these innovative techniques, and with a sensibility all his own, Damià Forment made a reputation for himself as one of the preeminent sculptors in the Iberian peninsula, and was much in demand. In the city of Lleida, he made an altarpiece for the parish church of Sant Joan. This relief of the Epiphany is all that remains of this great work.
