The centre houses a permanent exhibition that constitutes a historic and cultural itinerary through this remarkable millennial vernacular architecture, which has become one of the symbols of the Ebre Delta. The shacks, perfectly adapted to the deltaic environment, reflect the harsh life conditions of the people who lived on the Delta: sailors, shepherds, fishermen, ship’s pilotsand salt workers, but especially the peasant farmers who colonised the land and transformed it into cultivable fields.
The exhibition includes maps, texts, photographs and a display of the tools and implements used by the ancient shack builders, as well as maquettes of the different types of traditional shacks found on the Delta: pens, stables, storehouses and permanent or temporary homes, among others.
