The gold nuggets extracted from the bed and terraces of the Segre River are largely flat with rounded edges due to the impact, friction and crushing they undergo on their way downstream.

The gold found in the area of Balaguer is 98.5% pure (more than 23.5 carats), and it is calculated that the Segre basin still contains gold reserves of around 12 tons.

Stretching 1 g of gold yields a thread 3 km long or a sheet 1 m square.
