The buccin is a mouthpiece wind instrument very similar to a trombone, with a bell in the form of a dragon or serpent's head. The buccin bell was often painted in vivid reds, greens or gold. Buccins were very popular with the French military bands of the 19th century, as they were in the processions and festivals held around Catalonia. The Museu de la Música has fifteen buccins, some of them made in Barcelona by renowned instrument makers such as Francesc España.
