Adolphe Sax was decisive in the invention, construction and perfecting of many wind instruments, the saxophone in particular. Interested as he was in all innovations in music and acoustics, Sax invented a new type of bassoon, different valve mechanisms for brass instruments, percussion instruments and a system of whistles for locomotives.
