Compared with the later guitars of the romantic period, baroque guitars were smaller with a narrower body and smoother curves. They usually had five double strings. Designs, however, varied according to their origins and makers: Italian, French and German models tended to be more sumptuously decorated, while Spanish models were more austere. This guitar has a sounding board decorated with walnut inlays in the form of two lions.
