The Catalan shawn (tenora in Catalan) is a traditional Catalan musical instrument with a range of interpretative and musical uses. It is a wooden instrument related to the xeremia (a medieval instrument that was played throughout Europe) with a metal bell and a double reed mouthpiece. But it was Pep Ventura, in the mid-19th century, who gave it a dominant role in the modern Cobla, which is how know the instrument today.
