Although it is highly worn, this inscription is a monument made by the plebs of Aeso to a duumvir who succeeded in supplying the city with grain in a time of need.
Born into a rich family from Aeso in the late 1st century AD, Lucius left the town while still very young in order to pursue a military career. Years later, he excelled in his profession to the extent that he held important positions such as that of centurion in several legions and participated in military campaigns in Dacia, the current-day Romania, and Parthia, in the north of Iran. The Emperor Trajan decorated him several times due to the great bravery and loyalty he displayed in his actions.
