In 1907 the company Sederies Vilumara moved its factory from Barcelona, where it kept its offices, to L’Hospitalet. The new location offered good communications, plenty of water (which provided the moisture needed for working silk) and cheaper labour than in Barcelona.

The loom, which wove the silk, had a central steam engine as its driving force connected to each of the work points by a busbar.

It is in a perfect state of conservation and in fact, the fabric displayed was woven after the loom was installed in the exhibition.
