Can Riera (17th century) is an interpretation and documentation centre with pedagogical resources specialised in the democratic memory from 1931-1980.

The permanent exhibition “L’Hospitalet in the 20th Century” takes us through the period from 1931 to 1980. It is a tribute to the men and women who contributed to shaping the city, and especially to those who fought for democracy and sacrificed their lives and freedom in the struggle against Franco.

The unit is a centre for interpretation, documentation, consultation and teaching resources. It is designed to raise awareness of the historical period in our city from the Second Republic to the democratic transition. It very specially takes into account L’Hospitalet’s participation in the struggle against Franco, especially in the later years and in the transition.

Can Riera, a 17th century farmhouse that was restored by the Town Hall in 2009, is the venue that has been devoted to the city’s democratic memory, and it has also become the city’s contribution to the Network Spaces of Democratic Memory of the Government of Catalonia.
