Jaume Morera i Galícia (Lleida, 1854 – Madrid, 1927) was one of Spanish painting's most appreciated landscape artists during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work is associated with that of a generation of artists who gave full autonomy to landscape painting through realism, thereby breaking with the academic conventions of the time. Their work, based on the direct observation of nature, represented landscapes realistically.

Starting in 1890 Jaume Morera set out to paint various landscapes in the Sierra de Guadarrama, as a result of which he produced a series of paintings that demonstrate his maturity as an artist. His Cabeza de Hierro (Guadarrama) (Iron Head (Guadarrama)) is an example of one of his favourite themes: snow. Winter in the Sierra de Guadarrama enabled him to depict what most interested him about landscapes in the high mountains: inaccessible nature, its atmosphere and luminosity. This gave his work a dramatic quality, with its roots in Romanticism, that set him apart from most Spanish landscape artists of the time.
