The Museu d’Art de Lleida (Lleida Museum of Art) is located beside the Tourist Office on the Carrer Major of the city of Lleida, in the old building that was once the Casino Principal. It is Lleida’s museum for modern and contemporary art, and is named in memory of the Lleida painter Jaume Morera i Galícia (1854-1927).
After opening in 1917 the museum occupied a number of different buildings in the city, until it was moved in 2007 to the Casino Principal, where it awaits the building of a new and more permanent home.
The museum’s mission is to explain to its visitors the history of modern art, in general, and the important contributions made by artists from the city and province of Lleida to its development over the last century and a half, in particular. We do this principally through exhibitions drawn from our own collections, which cover painting, sculpture, architecture, drawing, engraving, graphic design, photography, video, and even comics. These exhibitions are curated around different specific themes, and are complemented by a programme of temporary exhibitions, educational activities and other events.
