This is a small scale imitation (14 cm high and an outer diameter of 5.4 cm) of one of Iberian culture’s most peculiar and emblematic pottery vessels: the amphora. This was a container used to store food, liquids or semi-solids for transport and subsequent sale, especially on board ships. Amphorae circulated all over the Mediterranean in ancient times and had a range of shapes and materials, which enables us to identify their origins and the routes of the ships that traded with them.
