The Three Graces appear nude against a blue background and a sienna-coloured ground. The central figure has her back to us and her arms, resting on her companions’ shoulders, obscure their breasts. The side figures are holding two roses with stem and leaves.

In classical mythology, the Three Graces or Charites (Euphrosyne, Thalia and Aglaea) represented beauty and happiness and were followers of Apollo or Venus. They are shown with a rose, a branch of myrtle or an apple in their hands, as symbols of artistic inspiration.
