The conditions of Inquisition prisons were extremely harsh. Having been anonymously denounced, the person accused of practising Judaism was subjected to an interrogation in which he or she was inflicted torture (the torment). Finally, the Tribunal publicly passed sentence in a dramatic ceremony called Auto-da-fé (act of faith).
