Orientalism:

European colonial expansion into North Africa in the 19th century encouraged many artists to travel to Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The detailed and meticulous representation of their landscapes and customs, dominion of light and colour gave rise to the Orientalist genre.

Vicenç Miquel (Sabadell, 1875-1929) was a disciple of Joan Vila Cinca (Sabadell, 1856 – Sant Sebastià de Montmajor, 1938), he studied at the Llotja where he was a student of Fabrés, Casachs and Graner, three renowned pompiers painters. He was a great lover of Orientalist painting. In 1902 he abandoned painting to dedicate his time to the family business, returning to it at the end of his life.
