During the 19th century, and especially during the reign of Isabel II of Spain, the bourgeoisie gradually spread a new lifestyle concept.

Bourgeois society opened up to Europe and all its advances and modern concepts. The ideas of privacy, domestic intimacy, comfort and leisure appeared. As a result, new rooms were added to bourgeois houses, such as the smoking room and the library, which were decorated not only with comfortable furnishings manufactured of tropical woods with decorative motifs and marquetry in the Parisian style, but also with luxurious objects such as English porcelain.
