This sculpture is attributable to Domènec Rovira the Elder, a sculptor active in Girona during the mid-17th century. The piece coincides stylistically with two other figures exhibited at the Museum, Santa Eulàlia and Sant Roc, from the baroque altarpiece of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, by the same artist. These similarities in style withSant Joan Baptista conform to that of Domènec Rovira. We observe, for example, the same deeply serious facial expression and pronounced cheekbones. The body is also similar in its accentuation of the contrapposto and the folds of clothing, which are gathered at the waist.
